Stained Glass
Artist Statement
My fascination with stained glass started as a child sitting in church and being awed by the beauty of the stained glass windows. I was drawn to how light transforms glass, creating a unique beauty not seen in other mediums. Also, I enjoy the technical side of creating and making stained glass designs with a relatively limited palette of colors and textures.
I have been designing and making stained glass artwork for over 30 years. I have used both the Copper Foil and Leaded Glass techniques, but most of my work is in Copper Foil. I prefer Copper Foil (Tiffany Method) because it provides a greater degree of artistic freedom. It allows me to create more intricate designs as well as 3D projects such as lamps. Also, the Copper Foil method allows for a lighter, airier appearance with narrower seams which emphasize the play of light through glass, creating a more delicate and whimsical feel.
I don’t confine myself to a specific artistic style. By remaining open and experimental I can continue to evolve as an artist and let my work develop naturally.
