Artist Statement
I have always enjoyed creative pursuits including drawing, pastels, watercolors, leather working, quilting, and felting. Having been an avid hiker for many years, I was always drawn to the beauty of nature and the interconnection of its parts. While working in most mediums I paint landscapes, but my drawing is always of animals, both wild and domestic. When I’m drawing animals with pencils, I’m transported to a place of calm where each stroke and tiny mark brings the majesty of an animal to life. I always begin with the eyes, the windows to the soul. From there, the animal comes to life for me, and I work to reveal their personalities to the viewer. My drawings focus on wild animals and their interactions with their environment, as captured
from trail cams in the upper Midwest, especially Voyageurs Wolf Project.
My goal with my art is to share the magnificence of wild animals, both large
and small, with my viewers.
